BOWEN’S STORY
Bowen Chase Bacote was born handsome and silent on Wednesday, September 28, 2022, at Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis, Maryland.
Bowen is his parent’s 3rd child and only son that they will have to cherish in their hearts forever. His journey started through the beautiful world of science; he was conceived through In Vitro Fertilization (IVF). Per the doctors and his parent’s experience, they had what the doctors called a “textbook perfect IVF pregnancy.” Everything was great until the morning of September 27. As parents, they realized that Bowen did not wake Mommy up with his relentless and active kicking. The thought triggered concern and sent them to the hospital. They heard the most straightforward combination of words that forever changed their life: “I’m Sorry.” The only explanation they had at the time was, “Sometimes this just happens; babies die.” Bowen was born the next day through induced vaginal delivery.
Bowen is the hero in this story.
Because of his selfless act and assignment on his life, his loss put his parents in the necessary place to care for his mother, who experienced a severe postpartum hemorrhage directly after birth. The doctors told his father if she went into labor at home, there would not have been enough time for her to get to the hospital with the amount of blood she was losing. He saved his mother’s life and gave his sisters and father a second chance with her.

While we want to prevent and support efforts to end infertility, stillbirth, and neonatal birth, we focus on the “But When it Happens.” We look to help those families during one of their most traumatic times to acknowledge that “this happened to us too” and bring a sense of empathy. We achieve our mission with the mindset that every loss Matters and Everyone Receives Support.
